Se describen dos casos de mesotelioma fibroso benigno en los que se destaca la rareza de los mismos, sus principales características clínico-histológicas y sus diferencias con los mesoteliomas de comportamiento maligno.
Asimismo se destaca el valor de la biopsia transtorácica que estará especialmente indicada en personas de edad avanzada en los que esta técnica es de preferencia diagnóstica a la toracotomía de entrada.
Finalmente se resalta el valor de la TAC torácica en especial cuando se realiza por tiempo real al aportar datos interesantes no sólo en la morfología y densidad de la masa sino también por su relación con estructuras vecinas.
Two cases of benign fibrous mesothelioma are repor-ted. Emphasis is made on the rarity of this condition, its main clinical and pathological features and its differences with malignant mesothelioma.
In addition, the usefulness of transthoracic biopsy is stressed. This procedure is indicated in elderly patients in whom it is preferable to torachotomy as a diagnostic technique.
Finally, the value of thoracic CT scan is studied, especially with real time technique which provides interesting data not only about morphology and density of the mass but about the relation of the latter with sorrounding structures.
