Summary

The authors have carried out a comparative study using 110 asbestos workers and a control group of 82 persons. The restriction of pulmonary volumes was observed with much greater frequency among the asbestos workers. The radiological alterations are also more frequent for the group in contact with asbestos. The results obtained are comparable to those described in literature. One of every four workers in contact with asbestos for more than 20 years presents a pulmonary asbestosis.
