The treatment of the small cell nondifferentiated carcinoma has been discussed in the last years and some authors have proposed a multidisciplinary approach based on the association of polychemotherapy, thoracic radiotherapy, prohylactic holocranial radiotherapy, and radical surgery. We have reviewed 18 cases observed between 1978 and 1987. The actuarial survival in the resected cases was 23% after three years, whereas the nonresected cases had a survival of 6% These results support the concept that those patients should be treated with aggressive therapy based on multidisciplinary treatments and surgery especially in cases with nondisseminated illness.
