The authors present 9 cases of fat tissue deposits studied and treated during the past few years.

Diagnosis before surgery was practically impossible before the introduction of computerized axial tomography (TAC). At present, most tumors or deposits of fat tissue can be demonstrated without thoracotomy. Although the diagnosis of some of them is extremely difficult and can be confused especially with hydatid cysts. The therapeutical approach is usually surgical with only two exceptions: first, in high risk patients when there is no doubt about the mass being fat and, second, when such mass is localized in areas where fat accumulates more frequently, like the juxtapericardium or the anterosuperior mediatinum of patients receiving steroid therapy.
