The journal Archivos de Bronconeumología (Arch Bronconeumol) warmly welcomes the latest Journal Citation Reports, celebrating this milestone with full engagement. The recently published 2024 bibliometric assessment by the Web of Science has awarded the journal an impact factor of 9.2 points. This significant impact factor consolidates the journal's position within the top decile of respiratory medicine journals worldwide.1 Accordingly, it is recognized as the sixth leading respiratory journal globally and the fourth among pulmonology-specific original publications, immediately following The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and European Respiratory Journal. This achievement underscores its capacity to publish original contributions across the entire spectrum of pulmonology. Furthermore, Archivos de Bronconeumología holds the distinction of possessing the highest impact factor among all Spanish-edited journals across medical categories, all of which are published entirely in English.

Over the past years (see Fig. 1), the journal's impact factor has demonstrated rapid and sustained growth, establishing it as a globally recognized and prestigious publication within the field of respiratory medicine.2 Several strategic editorial decisions and contextual factors have contributed to this upward trajectory. Initially rooted in Spain, the journal has historically benefited from contributions by highly esteemed Spanish research groups across diverse domains of respiratory science. Spain boasts an outstanding cadre of investigators whose collaborative efforts have significantly enriched the journal's content. With its ongoing internationalization and full publication in English, the journal now attracts high-quality submissions from researchers across all five continents, thereby actively contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge on a global scale.

Secondly, the editorial strategies implemented during challenging periods—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic—have proven to be judicious and effective. The pandemic underscored the urgent need for rapid dissemination of research to enhance understanding and response. During those years, many journals prioritized COVID-19-related content, which temporarily influenced bibliometric metrics. Archivos de Bronconeumología, however, maintained its commitment to publishing relevant, high-impact articles on COVID-19 while continuing to emphasize scientifically rigorous topics in pulmonology and thoracic surgery. This balanced approach has helped ensure that the journal's bibliometric recognition remains rooted in its core scientific contributions, rather than being disproportionately affected by the transient impact of pandemic-related research.

An additional factor enhancing the journal's attractiveness to authors is its efficient and rigorous peer-review process, which facilitates prompt editorial decisions and minimizes unnecessary delays. The indispensable role of our peer reviewers—whose timely and expert evaluations underpin the quality and integrity of published research—must be duly acknowledged.

When reflecting on the key drivers of the journal's growth and international expansion, the strategic decision to publish exclusively in English stands out. The journal's commitment to internationalization has been evident for many years. Although initially published in Spanish, in 2001 it adopted a bilingual format, accepting articles in both Spanish and English.3 Over time, the proportion of submissions and publications in English increased steadily, culminating in the 2024 decision by the Editorial Committee to publish all content solely in English. This transition has transformed Archivos de Bronconeumología into a truly international scientific platform, fostering the global exchange of ideas and contributing to the advancement of science on an international scale—while preserving its original Spanish name as a nod to its roots.

In this context, the primary objective of the editorial team, the editorial board, and the advisory committee for the coming years is to further internationalize Archivos de Bronconeumología. Although the journal has experienced rapid bibliometric growth, it appears that potential authors and research groups worldwide have not yet fully grasped the operational and editorial philosophy guiding our publication. Nevertheless, in recent years—particularly over the past two—there has been a noticeable increase in manuscript submissions from diverse countries, correlating with our expanding bibliometric impact. We are now actively committed to evaluating submissions from regions with strong scientific communities, thereby broadening the journal's global reach. Consequently, we warmly invite prominent research groups and leading experts in pulmonology from all disciplines worldwide to submit original research articles, reviews, and opinion pieces.

We wish to emphasize that our high rejection rate of approximately 90% for original articles should not discourage prospective authors. On the contrary, Archivos de Bronconeumología offers a rapid, transparent, and efficient peer-review process, enabling researchers to disseminate their findings promptly to the international scientific community. Furthermore, the journal provides a dynamic platform for engaging in scholarly debate on the latest controversies, innovations, and developments within the field of respiratory medicine.

This editorial, authored collectively by the entire editorial team of Archivos de Bronconeumología, serves as a formal call to all researchers around the world who have yet to submit their esteemed work. We are confident that both the editorial process and the scientific impact of the journal will prove to be rewarding for contributing authors.

The editorial committee firmly believes that the journal's strategic shift towards an international audience—transforming into a publication with a Spanish name but entirely in English—has enabled us to offer the global respiratory community a rigorous yet accessible scientific platform for discussion, learning, and advancement.
