Hemos estudiado 93 pacientes con nódulo pulmonar solitario, en cuya historia clínica existía el diagnóstico de neoplasia primitiva no pulmonar.
Habitualmente la presencia de este nódulo induce a pensar en metástasis. El 66,6% resultó metast tico, pero en el 21,4% se pudo establecer un patrón histológico diferente al tumor primitivo y en el 7,5% el diagnóstico fue de benignidad.
Es importante este estudio de los nódulos pulmonares solitarios, ya que el diagnóstico de otra tumoración pulmonar puede requerir diferente actitud pronóstica y terapéutica.
The authors report the results of a study including 93 patients with a diagnosis of primary non-pulmonary neoplasm and a solitary pulmonary nodule.
In generally the appearance of a nodule would suggest metastasis: in 66.6% of patients this was the case while in 21.4% histology studies revealed a pattern which differed from the primary tumor and in 7.5% the nodule proved benign.
Careful study of a solitary pulmonary nodule is of importance to differentiate it from other pulmonary tumors requiering a different mode of therapy and with a different prognosis.
