Los efectos de la oxigenoterapia líquida portátil (OLP) sobre la deambulación, con el esfuerzo que supone cargar con el dispositivo portátil, no están totalmente aclarados. Nuestro objetivo ha sido evaluar la repercusión de la OLP sobre la deambulación, utilizando para ello la prueba de marcha de 6 minutos. Se estudiaron 30 pacientes en tratamiento con oxigenoterapia domiciliaria (OD), a los que se les realizaron una gasometría arterial basal, una espirometría y tres pruebas de marcha de 6 minutos, la primera basal, y posteriormente aleatorizadas y cruzadas, una con aire comprimido simulando oxígeno y otra con oxígeno líquido (OL). Durante la realización de las pruebas, se midieron la frecuencia cardíaca máxima, la distancia recorrida, la disnea mediante la escala de Borg, la saturación de oxígeno (SatO2) media y el tiempo que los pacientes estuvieron por encima del 89% de saturación. Comparando las pruebas basales con las realizadas con aire comprimido, no se observaron mejorías en ninguno de los parámetros evaluados. Sin embargo, sí se observó un aumento de la distancia recorrida en las pruebas con OL, comparadas con las basales, así como la corrección de la SatO2 al flujo prescrito. La disnea no se modificó significativamente.

The effect on walking of portable liquid oxygen therapy. (PLOT), which involves carrying a tank, remains unclear. Our aim was to evaluate the repercussion of PLOT on performance in the 6 minute walking test. We enrolled 30 patients receiving home oxygen therapy in a randomized cross-over study, collecting data on arterial blood gases at baseline, spirometry, and performance on the 6 minute walking test at baseline and at later sessions with PLOT and with compressed air simulating oxygen. During the tests we measured peak heart rate, distance walked and time that oxygen saturation remained over 89%. For compressed air, no improvement over baseline values was observed for any of the parameters measured. During the PLOT tests, however, patients walked farther than at baseline and arterial oxygen saturation rose to the prescribed flow rate. Dyspnea was not significantly affected.
