As bronchial carcinoids are «low malignity» tumors, require cytohistological confirmation previous to surgery, because this information may influence the type of surgical technique.

The low accuracy of the simple endoscopic interpretation for the diagnosis and the low morbidity (with preventive measures) and the acceptable diagnostic yield of the cytohistological samples obtained through the bronchofibroscope, make cytohistological study a routine investigation in this disease, either by means of bronchial biopsy of tion in this disease, either by means of bronchial biopsy or transbronchial needle aspiration.
