Se comentan las características radiológicas que definen al empiema enquistado posterior en el hemitórax izquierdo, valorando los posibles factores que lo explican, sin poder llegar a una conclusión satisfactoria de porque, no se presenta del mismo modo en el hemitórax derecho.
Se aportan 7 casos, 5 de los cuales son secundarios a neumonias neumocócicas del lóbulo inferior izquierdo, un caso es de etiología no precisada y el último a un proceso tuberculoso de larga evolución.
The radiological characteristics identifying posterior encysted empyema in the left hemithorax are commented on, evaluating the possible etiological factors. However, there is not any satisfactory explanation on which the same features do not appear in the right hemithorax.
Seven cases of chronic empyema are presented, five of which are secondary to penumococcal pneumonías of the lower left pulmonary lobe, one case is of unknown etiology and the last is due to a chronic tuberculosis.
