Estudiamos en 31 sujetos normales los valores de normalidad de capacidad residual funcional (FRC), resistencia de la vía aérea (Raw) y conductancia específica (SGaw) obtenidos por pletismografía, encontrándose valores concordantes con los referidos en la literatura. Nuestro limite inferior de normalidad para la SGaw fue 0,120 cmH2O—1. s—1.

La variabilidad interprueba de la FRC fue baja, siendo alta la de Raw y SGaw, y fueron necesarios incrementos superiores al 21 en la Raw y al 18,5% en la SGaw para alcanzar significación.

No encontramos diferencias significativas entre los valores pletismográficos de fumadores y no fumadores.

Existía una correlación significativa entre conductancia (Gaw) y FRC (r = 0,74), y era mayor que entre Gaw y talla (r = 0,68); a pesar de lo cual la dispersión en los valores de la SGaw era importante (coeficiente de variación interindividuo del 18,5%) pero menor que para la Raw (29,2%). Todo ello parece aconsejar el empleo de la SGaw para la comparación interindividuo y el establecimiento de la normalidad.

Se analizan los aspectos fisiológicos que pueden haber intervenido en la obtención de estos resultados.

This study included 31 normal individuals in whom normal values for functional residual capacity (FRC), airway resistance (Raw) and specific airway conductance (SGaw) were obtained by pletysmography; values were in agreement with those documented in the literature. Our lower limit for normalcy for the SGaw was H2O—1. s—1.

The interassay variation in FRC was low while the Raw and SGaw were high and increases above 21 for Raw and 18.5% for SGaw were needed to reach significance levels. No significant differences were found between pletysmographic values for smokers and nonsmokers.

There was a significant correlation between conductance (gaw) and FRC (r = 0.74) which was higher than that for Gaw and height (r = 0.68) in spite of the dispersion in Gaw values being considerable (interindividual variation coefficient 81.5%) but less than that for Raw (29.2%).

These findings suggest that SGaw be used for interindividual comparion and to establish levels of normalcy. The physiologic aspects which may have influenced these results are discussed.
