The aim of this study was to analyze the shape and position of the dose-response curves (CDR) to methacholine.

Complete dose-response curves to methacholine were built for 17 mild asthmatic and 10 healthy subjects, looking for the best possible fitting to one of the following mathematical models: lineal, semilogarythmic, potential and sigmoid. The highest correlation coefficient was obtained for sigmoid model in both groups. The curves showed however different positions when plotted in coordinate axis. The study of the several factors responsible for the differences of CDRs between asthmatic and healthy subjects may contribute to a better insight in the pathogenesis of bronchial hyperreactivity.
