Se revisan 301 broncoscopias practicadas en pacientes con hemoptisis para valorar en qué momento es preferible realizar la exploración y determinar su utilidad diagnóstica. El origen de la hemorragia se detectó con mucha mayor frecuencia (82,7%), cuando el paciente aún presentaba expectoración hemática al tiempo de la endoscopia. Sin embargo el diagnóstico etiológico se pudo precisar mejor cuando la hemorragia había cesado.
En el 69,1% de los casos, labroncoscopia aportó datos positivos para el diagnóstico y permitió determinar con certeza la causa etiológica en el 41,5%. Los tumores hemoptizantes parecen ser especialmente accesibles al diagnóstico endoscópico.
The authors review 301 bronchoscopies carried out in patients with hemoptysis in order to evalúate in what moment it is preferable to carry out the exploration and to determíne its diagnostic utility. The origin of the hemorrhage was detected with much greater frequency (82,7%) when the patient still presented hematie expectoration at the time of the endoscopy. However, the etiologic diagnosis was more precise when the hemorrhage had ceased.
Bronchoscopy contributed positive data for diagnosis in 69.1% of the cases and allowed the etiological cause to be determined with certainty in 41.5% of the cases. Hemoptysic tumors seem to be especially accesible to endoscopic diagnosis.
