Summary

In 15,804 miners 272 BK + were found (by direct extension and or culture). From this group 938.53% had complicated pneumoconiosis; 32.78% had simple pneumoconiosis; and 28.69% had no pneumoconiosis. The average age was around 50 years old, there being no significant diffe-rence in the different groups, the same as with years of work with dust risk, All the bacilli obtained by culture (Löwenstein's medium) were M. Tuberculosis. No atypical mycobacteria were found. There is a clear tendency to the diminution of the incidence of carriers oí the bacilli, calculating that they will disappear in 1978. The incidence of the BK + in the different Asturian judicial districts, in relation to the retired mining population and the total mining population are studied giving some average figures for Asturias of: 17 BK + for 1000 retired miners and a 6.2 for 1000 in the total mining population.
