Se ha valorado la eficacia de un programa de tratamiento del tabaquismo con parches de nicotina de 16 horas ofertado por correo en un grupo de profesionales de la Sociedad Española de Neumología y Cirugía Torácica (SEPAR). Un total de 55 sujetos (34 varones y 21 mujeres) con edad media de 40 años recibieron tratamiento con parches de nicotina de 16 horas con dosis y tiempo de aplicación de los mismos que oscilaron dependiendo del grado de puntuación del test de Fagerstrom. El índice de abstinencia, que fue verificado mediante medición de monóxido de carbono en aire espirado, fue del 23,6% a los 6 meses de seguimiento. Se observó escasa presencia de efectos secundarios leves y ausencia de graves.

We evaluated the efficacy of a smoking cessation progrant using 16-hours nicotine patches offered by mail to physicians belonging to the Spanish Pneumological and Thoracic Surgery Society. Fifty-five subjeets (21 women) with a mean age of 40 underwent treatment with 16-hours nicotine patches with different dose-time applications dependent on Fagerstrom test stores. Abstinence, Which was verified by measuring carbon monoxide in expired air, was 23.6% after 6 months of follow up. we observed a low rate of mild side effects.
