3 cases of subacute pulmonary hypertension caused by tumour embolism are reported. Diagnosis was confirmed by necropsy study. A clinical-pathological correlation is made, with special emphasis on the etiological and pathogenetical mechanisms. These explain how the true cause of the disease may be clinically hidden at the time of presentation (in one of the 3 cases only the necropsy discovered the tumoral origin); they explain as well the rapid clinical course.
