We report the initial 100 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax which were treated following a new protocol inclu-ding the substitution of higher bore catheters (20-40 F) for those of lower bore (2,7 mm 8F). The effectiveness of these drainages was 83%. The average period of drainage were 4,43 days. The most significant complications were drainage obs-truction in 4 and parenchymal perforation in 1%.
