La parálisis diafragmática unilateral es una afección poco habitual, generalmente debida a la interrupción de la transmisión de los impulsos nerviosos por el nervio frénico. La forma idiopática es una de las más frecuentes, y se ha sugerido que la causa puede ser una infección viral. Generalmente, la repercusión clínica es escasa, pero en algunos casos puede ser muy importante. Se presenta un caso con dichas características, tratado con éxito mediante la plicatura del diafragma afectado

Unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis is rare and usually due to interrupted phrenic nerve conduction of impulses. The idiopathic form is the most common and viral infection has been suggested as the cause. Generally, clinical repercussions are few but may be severe in some cases.
