The clinical, radiological and functional characteristics are described for 12 patients with chronic eosinophilic pneumonia. All were women and ages ranged from 13 to 77 years; 75% had antecedents of bronchial asthma. An erroneous diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis had been established in 25%. In two thirds of the patients radiological examination revealed bilateral opacities with a predominantly peripheral localization. All patients except one presented peripheral eosinophilia. In this patient the bronchoalveolar lavage demonstrated marked eosinophilia. Functional tests showed a variety of patterns (obstructive, restrictive and mixed). Steroid treatment elicited a favourable responso in all patients; five relapsed when the corticoid (loses were lowered and required new treatment schedules.
