Presentamos 9 pacientes con diagnóstico sincrónico de tuberculosis pulmonar activa y carcinoma broncogénico en un período de S años. Todos eran varones, de edad media 55±10 años. El síntoma predominante fue un síndrome tóxico de 1-3 meses de evolución y el patrón radiológico más común, la consolidación alveolar. La estirpe histológica correspondió a carcinoma escamoso (4 casos), adenocarcinoma (4 casos, con uno bronquioloalveolar) y carcinoma de células grandes (uno). Con frecuencia el estadio tumoral era avanzado: IV (44%) y III (33%). El bacilo tuberculoso se aisló en el esputo (100%) y en el aspirado bronquial (50%); no aparecieron resistencias in vitro. Tres pacientes fueron tratados con cirugía radical y tres con radioterapia. La mediana de supervivencia de la serie se alcanzó a los 3 meses.
We describe 9 patients with coincident active tuberculosis of the lung and bronchogenic carcinoma who were all diagnosed within a 5-year period. All were men, with a mean age of 55±10 years. The principal symptom was toxic syndrome lasting 1-3 months and the most common X-ray sign was alveolar consolidation. Analysis of tissue samples revealed squamous carcinoma (4 cases), adenocarcinoma (4 cases, one of which was broncholoalveolar) and non-small cell carcinoma (1 case). Tumoral stage was often advanced: IV (44%) and III (33%). The tuberculosis bacillus was isolated in sputum (100%) and in bronchial aspirate (50%); no in vitro resistance was observed. Three patients were treated with radical surgery and three with radiotherapy. Average survival was 3 months in this series.
