    Furthermore, this technique was shown to be safe and much less costly than SLB, and could be an alternative to consider in the diagnostic management of these patients. It has been estimated that approximately one third of patients with ILD will require lung biopsy, although this will be performed in only 7.5%–12%,3,4,15 highlighting the reticence of some patients and physicians to perform this procedure. Moreover, although suitable samples for histopathological study can be obtained with SLB,23,24 it is not without significant drawbacks, such as the need for an operating theater and hospitalization in most cases, limited availability, and moderate morbidity and mortality.25–29
