The clinical and radiographic features of 16 patients with bronchogenic cyst (14 puimonary and two mediastinal), seen over a 12 year period, are reviewed. All patients underwent surgical therapy and all diagnoses were confirmed histologically. The upper lobes were the most common site for the pulmonary cysts (9 cases) which manifested as recurrent respiratory infections (10 patients) or repeated hemoptysis (2 patients) or both; another two patients were symptom free. On radiography the cysts appeared as round, homogeneous, well defined masses on occasion surrounded by pneumonitis or with hydroaereal contents in the cysts or both. The two mediastinal cysts were fortuituous radiographic findings in symptom free patients. All patients underwent surgical treatment with the two mediastinal cysts and six puimonary ones excised and the remaining 8 puimonary cysts requiring lobectomy.
