We present a retrospective analysis of 68 patients with UICC stage III, non-small cell lung carcinoma, locally advanced. All patients were submitted to tumor resection with curative design. Four patients were excluded be-cause of postoperative mortality. From the 64 evaluable patients, 33 received postoperative irradiation (C + RT) and 31 followed periodic control (C). The 3 year actuarial survival was 41% (C + RT) vs 32% (C). Patients with mediastinal node involvement (N2), presented a 3 year survival of 49% (C + RT) vs 17% (C). We can conclude that postoperative irradiation is an effective treatment in patients with stage III lung cancer with mediastinal node involvement.
