Summary

The authors review the medical bibliography on disease of the small air ducts, from the concept of the disease, its discovery. its hystology. the different functional tests proposed for its diagnosis, comments on and limitations of said tests, and the new current perspectives on this topic. They conclude by suggesting that many aspects of SAD must still be explained, and describing possible means for diagnosis. In order to be able to come to clearer conclusions. the authors suggest that it might be necessary to wait for the results of prospective studies of long duration that are currently in course.
