Classic thoracoscopy has served as the base for the new era of Videothoracoscopic surgery which permits the diagnosis and treatment of a large number of thoracic diseases with the advantage of significantly reducing the pain and postoperative recuperation required with conventional thoracic surgery.

The technique and results of the thirteen Videothoracoscopic interventions performed up to July 1992, 18 lung biopsies in 9 patients with radiologic pattern of diffuse lung disease and 4 bullous and abrasive pleurodesis resections in patients with pneumothorax are presented.

The morbimortality was nul with an important reduction in postoperative pain with a mean hospital stay of three days.
