Three patients presented pulmonary edema associated with upper airways obstruction. The causes for the obstruction were: edema and carcinoma of the larynx; edema following the resection of laryngeal polyps and occlusion of the glotis by a food bolus. The factors which may trigger pulmonary edema under these circumstances are reviewed.
