We studied 11 patients with bronchioalveolar carcinoma during the last 12 years. We analyze the clinical picture, the radiologic data, the diagnostic procedures, and the clinical stage. The mean age of presentation of the illnes was 58.5 years. There was a predominance of females (ratio 2.6:1). Two patients were smokers. In one case there was previous fibrosis on the neoplasic area. Cough was the most frequent symptom (54.5%). No patient had evidence of hemoptysis. Nearly 30% of the cases were asymptomatic when the diagnosis was made. The most revelant radiologic pattern was of alveolar type (72.7%) in contrast with the presence of a mass or a nodule (27.3%) which in other series was more commonly seen. The most sensitive routine diagnostic procedure (45.5%) was cytologic examination of the bronchio aspirate. Sputum examination offered scanty information. Nearly 50% of patients were in a initial stage (stage I) of tumor growing when the diagnosis was established.
